    The Long Awaited HOUSE TOUR!!!

    *happy sigh*
It has been a long, long time and there are still a few little things to wrap up - but I've come to the conclusion that there will always be a few little things to wrap up. So this is where we live. Welcome to the Silver Moon House!

This is the main entrance / mud room / pantry / and storage area. Everything in a tiny home has to do double, and sometimes triple, duty.

    You can spot:

     - My apron
     - A picture from my grandpa
     - Cutting boards (one in the shape of a frog!)
     - A tea cozy
     - Magnets
     - Dog treats
     - A microwave
     - Cereal
     - Tang!

Here is a little bit further into the house. We have a 3/4ths fridge that I got for free from the Kaplan Institute that closed in the U District. When we hauled it out it was gross. The freezer was totally filled with ice and abandoned frozen lunches. There were stains and sticky fluids and all sorts of ickyness. Ewwww.

It took about a week to clean it out, let it thaw, dry it out, bleach it, wait a couple days, bleach it again, wash it, and then detail clean it with cotton swabs and more bleach.

I can proudly say it is all nice and fresh in there now! :-)

A 3/4ths fridge is perfect for Hubbs and I. I've noticed that being able to actually see where the food is means that less of it goes bad. Yay! Much less forgotten food!

Making tea first thing in the morning!

    Open shelves above the cabinets.

    Happy Plants!

This is the clothes hanger we got for the items that need to line dry. It is strong enough to hold tons of clothes but then collapses down to this teeny tiny towel bar. We mounted it on the back of the door to the shared work-space.

Above the drying rack is my purse storage. Have I mentioned I have a growing fondness for purses? Unfortunately / fortunately for me - a tiny space requires limiting the amount of earthly possessions so I shrunk it down to two everyday purses and one overnight bag.

    Roll-out cabinet kitchen storage

We left this cabinet open so the pup would have his very own space.

There are two small shelves above him for storage of cookie sheets (top shelf) and dog supplies, treats, and extra toys (middle shelf).

The poster was a gift from Hubb's mum.

In the back corner you can see the stacked metal stools. We searched all over for stackable counter-height stools! Guess where we found 'em. Guess!

    Fred Meyer for $20.

    Ridiculous.

    Floating handmade computer desk

This is the reading nook / music wall / clothing storage / rolling library area.

Hubbs looks so happy hanging out in the hammock and reading the Stranger!

We had thought about getting an actual "chair" but the hammock has been so much better - I can clean under it easily, we can move it where ever since there are plenty of other hanging spots throughout the house, and a person can easily sleep there - so couch surfing hooray!

Entry way storage                           Specially built shoe storage

Well, that's about it! I hope you enjoyed the tour. Now, its time to go out and play.
    Thanks for visiting!

Welcome to the Bathroom!

We've got fun n games! ... well, not really games, but there's tons of fun packed in every colorful inch of this tiny house bathroom!

                                            Before                                                     After

Our Tiny House bathroom is finally finished!!

We went with a recycled dark grey paint that matches the tile and grout in the shower. Then a modern trim and upper wall color in bright white. All the decoration is set against the upper white half of the walls and gives you plenty to look at while disguising storage.

There is a 3.5" kickout from the edge of the shower and I found some 3" trim near the 2" trim used on the walls. I grabbed the 3" trim, painted both sides, got some brushed silver mountings, and made a series of shelves on that wall to show off all our tiny knickknacks.

It also holds the bathroom clock ... just to make sure I get out on time!

Top Shelf : Jake the dog, vinyl cupcake, baby turtle, print, robo-chameleon, Pyewackett the corgi, stationary tin

Second Shelf : Hair sticks and bang-scissors, pottery from Japan, owl feather, tile from college pottery class, incense, the bathroom clock

Third Shelf : Lucky black cat, clay fish, glass star, Devil Duck, lucky candy smokes, hair pin holder, fork print, assorted crystals and metal fish, "you" rock, daruma doll, Betty Page card, Rubix cube

In a box, in a box, in a box ... and other updates

Everything is moved!
Yay!
....(looks around at all the boxes) yay?  eep!?

A few days ago it looked like Hoarders in here with little pathways all around to get from one area to another and boxes to the ceiling. We've been taking them down one by one and sorting through everything after work and on weekends but the whole process takes a lot longer than I first expected.

Going from 790sq ft to 260sq ft requires some purging, and we'd done a bunch of purging before getting here, but now that all the boxes are in the house I'm realizing that there's still a lot of purging to go. With limited room there's only room for the best and favorite of everything. Instead of 10 okay glasses we are down to 4 really funky fun favorite ones. There's no upper cabinets, no pantry, no dresser, and ... here's the kicker ... NO CLOSET.

Google "No Closet" and see what comes up. You'll find a bunch of closet solutions, closet organizers, armoires, wardrobes, and Ikea closet tips and tricks. They are all really great and amazing, but none of them are actual living situations sans-closet. Is this a thing people do?

I have two small built in drawers in the rolling bookcase and three drawers in the side shelves. That's it. I'm good with that. I still have a ton of clothes, (maybe more than I can handle!) but no hangers, no closet, and no separate room with wall to ceiling hanger bars and rotating racks.

Last night I hacked the rolling bookcase by adding wire shelves from breaking down an unused wire rack. I got to use my new favorite toy - heavy duty wire cutters that were previously used to cut chain link fence for the back yard. Cutting that wire shelving was so much fun! Fitting it into the bookcase wasn't, but I am so impressed by the ease with which those cutters ripped through the shelves!

The racks are for complete outfits so I don't have to sort through drawers in the morning trying to get clothes together. Pics if it works!

(rolling bookcase of awesome!)

In non-box related news:

The Fiat made it to 50k miles this week. It has been so super awesome to have this car! The moving took a little longer, but in a day to day driving situation it makes for a pretty comfortable, cheap, and happy little commuter car.

The Fams is settling in. The first couple of nights he was a little barky. He has to get used to new sounds, smells, a new bed, and new companions. He's been doing better though - sleeping though the night and enjoying going outside to play in his very own big back yard.

(Happy Fams)

This weekend Hubbs and I went to Cafe Besalu for brunch. The cafe is one of my favorite morning spots for pastry and cocoa in the mornings. Located in Ballard, it makes a fine place to meet up, grab a bite, and take a stroll through downtown.

We needed a break from all the cleaning at the old apartment and since we won't be living in the area anymore, Cafe Besalu made for a wonderful break and brunch before spending another day scrubbing and polishing every last inch of our old unit.

(Hot cocoa, ham & swiss for me, pear tart for Hubbs)

And last but not least - Florida bloomed!! Florida is my tiny orchid I brought back from vacationing with D in Florida. I got it from a side of the road orchid grower outside of Miami. I had no idea what kind of flower it would have  - white, yellow, purple, neon green or pink.

So this was a total surprise!!
The color in the picture is pretty true to life - a berry-like magenta with touches of bright yellow and cream. It sits in the garden window in the kitchen but may have to find another home soon since I think the garden window may be a bit too bright.

(Hello from Florida!!)

The Night Before Christmas

So many boxes!
Moving involves so many boxes!

I'm taking today, tomorrow, and Wednesday to unpack and organize everything.

Last weekend we built a ton of shelves, built cabinets, and built a pantry last. Today I painted and installed another set of shelves using leftover flooring boards, paint, contact paper, and some brackets. I unpacked and shorted all the shoes, cleaned the counter top, and ran back to the apartment and made another trip filling the car a second time. Phew!

So, like the night before Christmas, I'm waiting with eager anticipation for the last box, the last clean, and the first day my tiny house becomes a home.
